Vicarage Road
Watford, United Kingdom · matchday guide
Vicarage Road is a tidy, welcoming ground tucked into the streets of Watford, with a hospital literally next door and Elton John lyrics on one stand. Here is how to do a matchday in Watford.
Getting there
The nearest station is Watford High Street, around a five to 10 minute walk, and the best option on the day. Watford Junction, direct from London Euston in about 20 minutes, is the main hub and roughly a 20 minute walk. The setting is tight and residential with heavily restricted street parking, so rail is strongly advised. It is rated one of the easier London-area away days.
The away end
Away supporters are housed in the Vicarage Road Stand, the eastern end of the ground, with a capacity of around 2,200, and the stand is split with a home family area. The other stands, including the Rookery home end and the Sir Elton John and Graham Taylor stands, do not house away fans. Give yourself time for the searches.
Around the ground
The Graham Taylor statue stands outside the club shop, the Sir Elton John Stand carries Your Song lyrics, and Watford General Hospital sits right beside the ground, a well-known quirk of the place. Away-friendly pubs include the Oddfellows and the Moon Under Water on the High Street. A relaxed, welcoming away day to tick off.
