The Valley sits in a former chalk pit in southeast London, steep stands trapping the sound, and Charlton give it a warm, community feel on matchday. Here is how to do a matchday in SE7.

Getting there

The Valley is only a three to five minute walk from Charlton railway station, with trains from Cannon Street, Charing Cross and London Bridge. Alternatively you can take the Jubilee line to North Greenwich and hop on a bus for the last stretch. There is no public parking at the ground and the surrounding streets are controlled, so rail is much the easiest way in.

The away end

Away supporters are housed in the Jimmy Seed Stand, behind one goal at the south end. The vocal home support is over in the North Stand, the old Covered End, so do not mix the two up. It is a tidy ground with steep, sound-trapping stands, so a decent following comes across well. Give yourself time for the searches.

Around the ground

The Sam Bartram statue outside the West Stand is the traditional meeting point, and the immediate area is quiet and residential with a friendly, community feel. Pubs like the Royal Oak and the away-friendly Angerstein Hotel are nearby, with the riverside Anchor and Hope a nice option. An easy, amicable London away day to tick off.
