The Hawthorns is the highest ground in the league by altitude, a traditional Black Country stadium with easy access and a proper matchday buzz. Here is how to do a matchday in West Bromwich.

Getting there

The Hawthorns is one of the best-connected grounds anywhere. The Hawthorns station is both a rail stop and a Metro tram stop, only about five minutes' walk from the turnstiles, roughly 20 to 25 minutes by train from Birmingham New Street, with the tram running frequently on Saturdays. It sits right off Junction 1 of the M5, so it is easy by road too, with park-and-ride options on the Metro.

The away end

Away supporters are housed in the Smethwick End, on the side nearest the East Stand, with an allocation usually around 2,500 to 3,000. For league games the stand is shared with home fans. It is a compact traditional ground where a good following makes itself heard. Arrive in good time for the searches.

Around the ground

The Jeff Astle Memorial Gates are the standout landmark and a popular meeting point, with a Tony Brown statue and the club's Throstle badge writ large nearby. Pubs like the Vine on Roebuck Street are well known on matchday. A well-connected, easy Black Country away day to tick off.
