Stadium of Light
Sunderland, United Kingdom · matchday guide
The Stadium of Light is one of the biggest grounds in the country, and a full house of Sunderland support makes genuine noise. Here is how to do a matchday in SR5.
Getting there
The Stadium of Light sits just north of the River Wear, a short walk from Sunderland city centre. The Tyne and Wear Metro runs to the Stadium of Light stop right by the ground, with St Peter's a short walk away. Sunderland rail station is about 15 minutes on foot. Parking near the ground is limited, so the Metro is the easy option.
The away end
The away allocation is in a corner of the ground, in the lower tier. It is a big modern bowl, so the atmosphere lives and dies on the crowd, but a full Stadium of Light is loud. Arrive in good time for the searches.
Around the ground
The riverside setting and the Miners' Lamp monument outside give the ground a real sense of place, tied to the area's history. Matchday around the stadium is food stalls, flags and the walk up from the Wear. A big, well-connected one to tick off.
