Riverside Stadium
Middlesbrough, United Kingdom · matchday guide
The Riverside sits out on the Middlesbrough dockside, an isolated modern bowl that Boro fill with a proper Teesside roar on a good day. Here is how to do a matchday in Middlesbrough.
Getting there
The Riverside sits in an isolated dockland area east of the town centre, around a 12 to 20 minute walk from Middlesbrough station. You head out along the dock road past the newer development, with the away turnstiles off Shepherdson Way, and there are food vans on the walk in. There is little immediately around the ground, so the walk from the station is the standard approach.
The away end
Away supporters are housed in the lower tier of the South Stand, behind one goal at the river end. The loudest home support is over in the North Stand, so expect noise coming across. It is a modern bowl, so the atmosphere lives off the crowd, but a full house is loud. Arrive in good time for the searches.
Around the ground
The old Ayresome Park gates have been relocated outside the ground, along with statues of George Hardwick and Wilf Mannion, a nice nod to the club's past. Because the ground is isolated, drinking is town-centre based, with Doctor Browns and the Isaac Wilson near the station both popular. A modern one to tick off with a bit of history kept alive outside.
