Fratton Park
Portsmouth, United Kingdom · matchday guide
Fratton Park is one of the great old grounds of English football, tight terraced streets, the Pompey chimes and a home crowd that never lets up. Here is how to do a matchday in Portsmouth.
Getting there
Fratton Park sits among densely packed terraced streets, about a 10 minute walk from Fratton railway station. From the station you cross the footbridge, turn left onto Goldsmith Avenue and follow the crowd down toward Frogmore Road. Trains run from London Waterloo, Brighton and beyond, and rail is much the easiest way in given the tight streets.
The away end
Away supporters are housed in the Milton End, behind one goal, with an allocation of around 2,100. It has historically been the exposed end of the ground, so pack for the weather. It is old-school, close and loud, so expect a proper atmosphere from the home crowd. Arrive early for the searches.
Around the ground
This is one of the most atmospheric grounds in the country, all tight streets and the chimes and Play Up Pompey ringing round. The Good Companion on the main road is the designated away pub, with the Connaught Arms another option, and the city centre and Gunwharf Quays offer more. A must-tick for the groundhoppers.
